LSR Info Sessions

Camp notes

As lockdown keeps on progressing LSR are going to host several LSR Info Sessions for our trainees and parents.

These are FREE, other than the pain of being on yet another Zoom call.

These 60mins snapshot sessions are intended to give everyone an insight into the various elements of ski racing, from the different disciplines and their courses through to how a race day goes (indoor and snow races run different to dryslope).

The sessions will be hosted by LSR Coaches and a few LSR Committee Members.

So far, we have 4 sessions planned out, but we look to host a few more covering other topics as time goes on.

You can stick your name down for a session and we shall send out the Zoom details a few hours before.

If you have any questions for a specific session please send them to headcoach@lothianskiracing.co.uk letting us know which session it is for. This will allow us to keep to time and cover everything we need to, as well as giving us time to properly formulated answers in advance.

LSR Info Session 1 – Courses – Tuesday 9th February 2021 @ 19:00-20:00

This session will give an overview of the different disciplines in Alpine Ski Racing and the characteristics of them. What is the difference between a SL and a GS, what on earth is a upside down vertically and why do racers miss that last single gate in a hairpin?
We won’t go down into the fine print of the course setting rules or anything like that, but it will give trainees and parents alike the understanding of all the different courses you may race and how best to ski them.

LSR Info Session 2 – Equipment – Tuesday 16th February 2021 @ 19:00-20:00

This session will give an overview of the different equipment out there and what is beneficial at different ages. Covering skis, boots, helmets, etc. we aim to give a understanding of what is available, what different bits of kit are for and what is required in the rules for you to start a race.
Mainly focusing on equipment for those U16 and under, but we will make a mention of the stuff required for the older FIS racers.

LSR Info Session 3 – Race Day –Tuesday 23rd February 2021 @ 19:00-20:00

This session will cover entering races right through to the end of prize giving on the race day itself.
Focusing on dryslope and indoor we will cover races available, what is required to enter, how to enter, race support, how the race day runs for both the racer and parents, anything specific you need to race and scoring points etc.
We won’t go into how points (U14+) are calculated as that is easily a whole confusing session on its own, but we will cover how they influence start number, etc.

LSR Info Session 4 – Coach Q&A – Tuesday 2nd March 2021 @ 19:00-20:00

This session will allow you to ask a few of our LSR Coaches any questions you have. These can be on anything and everything, from technical questions on seed points right through to what coaching qualification pathways are available.
We will let you know what LSR Coaches will be joining as the weeks progress.
We would ask that you send any questions via email to headcoach@lothianskiracing.co.uk before Friday 26th February, so we can formulate proper answers.
